While planning my trip to Maui I kept thinking there has to be some descent riding there, the island is basically made up of 2 mountains... The problems was everytime I searched the internet all I could find was tours riding down the road from the summit of the volcano. I then stumbled across a small paragraph in my Lonely Planet Guide to Maui describing a bike company called Crater Cycles that offered a real DH experience renting out Kona Stinky's and Santa Cruz VP Free's along with full gear to take on the Skyline Trail, starting at the 10,000 ft summit of Haleakala (House of the Sun) and dropping over 6,000 vertical feet over 18 miles of DH trail. |
